These are flannels for a lap quilt I want to make. Awhile back, I bought a chenille cutter tool because I wanted to make a chenille quilt with flannels. The mitten print will be my backing for it and the other 3 flannels will form the top layer....that I'll cut with the chenille cutter. I think it will be a nice, cozy lap quilt when I"m done with it. I think these were $4.98 a yard.....and they have a wonderful feel to them. I was very happy to find them and put them in my Amish tote bag!!!
The picture above is the Amish farm that was directly across from our rental house. We had Amish neighbors next door to us, too. I took this photo with no zoom lens...just as it looked from our front porch. I did zoom in a bit for the next two photos and in the second one, you can see the Amish farmer doing some work with the animals. (Might see him better if you click on the photo to enlarge it.) He had just walked to the fence and tapped a stick on the fence and the cows immediately turned and started to follow him down the path in the first photo below....which you can see better if you click on it. The Amish school children would walk along in front of our house on their way to and from school and I had hoped to get a photo of them, but the one time we were home when they walked by, I wasn't quick enough to get the camera. I'd have photographed them from behind and when they were at a distance...as I know they don't like to be in pictures. I hope to get that photo on our next trip there. It is such a peaceful, beautiful area.
I still have several more photos I want to show on the blog about the retreat, so I hope you won't get bored looking at them!

Pat those pictures flood me with so many memories of when we used to travel thru Amish country on the way to Ohio. That used to be the best part.

When I lived in Ohio, those two years, we would go to the Amish country and buy foods. These pictures do indeed bring back memories for me too.

Love your flannels, and the price is exceptional! They will make a very nice quilt. Your photos bring to mind one of my favorite movies -- "Witness" with Harrison Ford. It's an action-packed thriller, but the quieter scenes are like your photos. If you haven't seen it, you might enjoy it!
Great price on the flannels! I love the photos of the farm country. What an interesting story about the man taping the fence and the cows responding. I didn't know you could teach cows anything.

Wonderful pictures. We have Amish living about 2 hours away from us in Manitoba. It was so neat to see them out in the fields this summer.

I have never done a chenille, either. Maybe you will do a tutorial on it for me? My Grandpa was a farmer and at milking time he would call the lead cow and everybody else would come along, except the one called "Brainless."
The photos of the Amish farm do look so peaceful. Your flannel lap quilt will be nice and cozy!
