This is a rather lengthy post, but I need to vent. Please humor me with this one......
Today we went to get my sewing machine. Well...actually, it's not the same one I dropped off to them....it's a new one...a replacement for that broken one. Janome said they found nothing wrong with my machine (HA....eating fabric and showing an electronic error code means NOTHING is wrong???) but for good customer relations, they would give me a new one. Hmmmmmmm.....not quite sure I believe that. Funny thing...the bobbin winder never worked properly on the one I returned to them....but now it DOES work, so I'm sure at least THAT much was wrong with my machine and an improperly wound bobbin might have been the cause of all the other problems the machine was having....and the error code that appeared and said to take it to the dealer......so there had to be a reason for that.
At any rate, they said I had to have a quick "lesson" on the machine before they would release the new one to me. The gal who worked with me today is the gal from whom I took 3 classes on this machine when it was new. She is the same one who thought my machine had a certain function and when it wouldn't do it at the third class, she said there must be something wrong with it and made me leave it there for repair. (Janome then informed the dealer that this model doesn't DO that function the teacher thought it did. Guess she didn't know the machine very well, did she?)
When we had the classes, she had no problem with the way I (and the others) held the thread when threading the machine. I've used the machine for 6 months with it working most of the time...but today she was all picky about pulling the thread a certain way and holding it a certain way. I said, "Gee....you never showed us to do it that way in the classes we had on the machine." It seems like she SHOULD have shown us that at the class if it was such an important issue. She just kind of laughed in a nervous way. She then was picky about something else, and I said, "I wonder why Janome doesn't say that in the instruction manual? They really should, you know, if it's so important. " She just laughed again. It seemed like their whole purpose today was to convince me that the machine I brought back was FINE but I didn't know how to thread it and use it and caused the problems myself...and that I should be bowing down at their feet because Janome is so wonderful and so concerned with good customer relations and that is the only reason I got a new machine. I've sewn for over 40 years.....so I am reasonably sure I know how to thread a machine, and I will just try to put their nonsense out of my head.
I could have retrieved this machine by going to their dealer store that is about 20 minutes closer to me (where I bought the machine), but they made me drive over an hour to go to their other location for her to be ridiculous and waste my time. BUT....I have a machine back now, so I'm telling myself that's all that counts...and I hope there are no further problems.
And there ends my vent. Thanks for sticking with me on it. Let's hope this is the end of anymore stories about my Janome!

Pat that is down right ridiculous.
I would write a letter to Janome just for Personal relations!
I hate it when people do not consider my time valuable. It is my biggest pet peeve. I had a similar problem with my Bernina. The manual was not too detailed on how to clean it so the dealer wanted to charge me $79.00 to clean it. I brought the manual in and showed him the manual to prove that I cleaned it just like Bernina instructed not like he wanted me too.
So you should at least let them know that there is an error in their manual.
Oh my goodness Pat, what an ordeal...I think I would be fuming as well. The hoops we have to jump through. wow, for your sake, I hope that this machine does not give you another ounce of trouble like the last one. so sorry for your troubles. Have you tried it yet?
Pat, I hope this machine is one that just keeps on tickin'!
Glad you were able to get a new machine out of it and I do hope that it runs like a dream for years to come. As long as you are happy.
Hugs
Susan
Oh Pat, no one should have to go through this. I would send an email to Janome and include a link to this post. They need to know how their stores are operating. I had a problem in our old town with the Bernina store. Once they sold you a machine they were DONE with you. I couldn't get the FREE classes scheduled so drove 90 miles...
Good luck with the new one, Pat. You deserve it!
omg...that's madness.
if it were me, i'd write a letter to their relations department, just to say that you are happy that janome sent you a new machine, but VERY unhappy with the fact that one of their instructors treated you like a moron.
seriously.
it's a good looking machine though.
i hope that this one is a keeper.
:D
What a time you are having with that machine - and with the company that sells it. You would think that a well-known company would have good customer services, but you can never tell. You probably should write to the president of the company as well as to the customer service department. At least you now have a new machine. Happy sewing!
Doesn't it make you feel better to put the stress in writing?
Hope all your machine problems are behind you now and this machine is good to you. Good luck!
Pat,
Oh my word. Bless your heart I hope this is the end of it and this machine runs a good long time!
As others have said I would write the company. I hope when you left with your 'new machine' you assured her you would NEVER take another classs from her again!!!
Oh, frustrating for sure!! Don't mind the long post or the venting. Sometimes it's just plain necessary!! Hope this machine works like a charm!!
Write a letter; mention your blog post and followers!
I'm glad you got a new machine and I hope it gives you many hours of sewing fun. I think the so called teacher was covering her bu** and perhaps she's in trouble for giving out bad info??
Enjoy your machine and vent when you need to, okay?
How rude!! lol Crazy people. Glad you got a machine out of it. Hopefully this will last a lifetime.
What a pain in the butt! I would think that there were problems if it was giving you an error message. DUH...
Let's hope this one causes you no problems...
Rude, horrible, unfair, and just down right awful! I agree I would write a detailed letter and send it right along to the higher ups at Janome. And if this machine so much as hiccups..take it back and get your $$$ back. I want to punch those people for you.
Pat
I'm so glad your problem was resolved even if you had to get the runaround.
Companies truly don't understand that their machines do have flaws that aren't always user error. Even small ones like the bobbin winder can wreck a good relationship with a machine.
I hope you enjoy your machine.
It so saddens me the way company's and their employees are compromising integrity and honesty. I just left a good paying job because I just couldin't bare to be a part of it anymore. Hang in there Pat. Pursue the letter to Janome corporate that others have recommened. Maybe if enough people stand up for themsselves, companies will begin to see that we are their customers and customer service matters and we can take our hard earned dollars someplace else, thank you.
Such a hassle you've had to go through and I think you're getting told a "crock of ......" you know what from that dealer. I hope that you find this machine to be all that you expect of it and that your troubles are behind you.
Pat, what an ordeal...How rude!! Glad you got a new machine out of it. Hopefully this will last a lifetime...
Julia ♥
I'm sorry you've had so much trouble with your machine. I hope this new machine solves the problem. I've had similar issues with my "dream" machine...it's never worked as well as I think it should. :(
