A "tree damage" update and a picture I love.....

Here is up-to-the-minute info on our tree damage (and repair) situation. First of all, I believe we will choose to delay the start of repairs until the day after the grandkids leave. There will be part of the house we can't use for about the first week or 10 days of the repair work, and it will be easier to have part of the house unusable AFTER the grands have gone rather than while they are here. Our insurance company has been wonderful and has already reimbursed us for the $3,100 we paid on the weekend for the tree removal. (Liberty Mutual is the insurance company, for all who might wonder.) The restoration firm is also wonderful (Accord Restoration). One of the state senators heard of our plight and contacted us....asked to come see us and wanted copies of our photos. He was very sympathetic and spent an hour sitting with us at our kitchen table discussing the issue. He is going to help get the legislation the rest of the way through the state legislature so it can be signed into law and it will then become very clear who is responsible for the damage caused by trees. I believe I told you the land owner cut down 3 of the 6 remaining trees that needed to come down....but those other 3 still worry me.

Now for the photo I mentioned in the title of this post.... a photo I truly love. A magazine called Delaware Beach Life has run a photo contest the past few years for amateur photographers. Hubby entered several for last year's contest and one was chosen for honorable mention...and actually got an entire page in an issue of the magazine (with a little story I wrote to go with it). We have a good number of Mennonites (and some Amish) in the area. We happened to be at the beach when these gals were at the water's edge. Now, since seeing them at the beach and IN the water isn't unusual here, can you guess what fascinated us the most that day? Okay...I'll tell you.......the thing that was SO neat was the way they had their shoes lined up. I don't know about your family, but with my kids and grandkids, shoes are just scattered anywhere and everywhere on the beach as soon as we get there. That is why these shoes caught our attention. I think it's a great photo...don't you??? (Click on it to see it larger and get the full effect of that line of shoes!)

As I recall, we took this picture on a windy day in late spring in 2008....so they probably were a bit chilly standing right at the edge of the water.

Glad your insurance company was so quick with the money. That's not always the case, I think. I find it hard to imagine that a state senator would stop by to talk about the trees. I don't think that would happen here in Maryland. Perhaps Delaware will get the law fixed, so that the property owner is responsible for trees. Too late to help you now, but it might persuade him to take down the other three trees.

The photo is great. It wouldn't be much fun to go to the beach in those clothes, would it? I wonder if the Amish come in the summer when it is boiling hot, or just when the weather is cool.

Terrific photo! Wonderful composition!

Well, thank goodness the tree situation is improving. I was worried I was going to have to come up there and punch someone for you.

It was good to pop in here and hear some really good news about the possibilities of changing that idiotic law!
The picture is wonderful....and yes, odd that the shoes are all lined up perfectly. But have you ever noticed their clotheslines? They too...hung with order!

Great picture, Pat. The shoe lineup is definitely a classic.

I'm glad to hear that progress is being made on the liability of tree damage. It will help the next person who has this happen.

Oh WOW what a wonderful picture Pat!! Hooray on the ease of getting things done on the house...well not ease but seems to be going pretty smoothly at this point. I'm impressed that the senator came by to show support for your plight. I hope this new law will make the landowner take the rest of the trees down.

The senator was in your kitchen having coffee? Huh, how about that!
Glad the insurance company is being prompt with the $$$. Putting off the
beginning of the work until the little people are gone is a wise move. As for the photo, it's fabulous :^)

So glad that things are going in a good direction for the damages you suffered...Think maybe you will be able to breathe a little easier now - especially knowing you have such good insurance.

Love the photo...I have to say - I love the colors of their dresses - and do you think I would be able to find those colors of fabrics...especially the teal and purple...NO! Where do they shop for fabric????

And good news on the insurance refund - glad to hear things are proceeding a bit more smoothly now. Still lots of work to be done, by the sounds of it!

Great photos of the produce at the fair. I hope I can post some as good as that from our Flower Show.
The pictures of the women at the seaside remind me of the bathing machines used during Victorian times in England when women went into the sea fully dressed!
I hope the repairs to the house go well and quickly.

That is a great picture...and the lined up shoes is quite interesting! I remember seeing lots of buggies when we lived in Dover. I remember seeing a buggy parked outside a convienence store and the husband walked out carrying a loaf of white bread and milk. Sure knocked out my image of homemade bread and fresh milk from a cow I thought the Amish would surely have!! :)
