Do you ever have scraps that you don't WANT to cut up into strips or squares for other projects? Sometimes I have fabrics that I'm tired of seeing and while they are really too big to just toss away, they aren't big enough pieces to give to anyone else to use for much of a project. Another blogger, Myra, had a nice idea on her blog recently of how to use them and
HERE is the link to read about it. I feel guilty if I throw "usable" sized pieces of fabric out....so this would make me feel like they aren't being wasted! Thanks for the good idea, Myra! (Oh, yes...forgot to add that I'd get a pillowcase from a local thrift shop really cheap... something like 50 cents....so the cost for the whole project would really be minimal!)
Below are a few photos of the village my hubby puts out each year....it's not a large village, but he has some cute little accessories for it and we enjoy it. I hope to get the family room tree done tomorrow. The wall is actually beige but is showing nearly white in the photo....weird!

That is one good idea for scraps. but if the scrap is 3x3 or bigger, it is always useful to piece in a block for a scrap quilt OR for paperpiecing.
I used lots of "scrap" pieces like that in one quilt I made.

Love your village. I've loved them since I was a kid and our village was the little cardboard houses that were available then. I have built-in book shelves in the family room where I put the village. We had electrical outlets put in each shelve when the house was built. The problem is that everything first has to be removed from the shelves. I'm not putting them up this year.
I haven't decided if I will do the villages this year, its a big job and I don't do it every year either. Yours looks so nice

Have 2 friends who have/had large collections of these. One did a display around the room on a nice shelf her DH put up for her in their old home, now in an apt. Not sure if Barb still puts all of hers up now or not she was cutting back and passing some on to her daughter.
Oh my Pat you can pass on these scraps to a scrappy quilter say like Bonnie Hunter, they use up all of them bitty pieces.;-)
I use up the poly/cotton type fabs that I am given to do crate quilts for our local Animal Control. Old towels work well too.

I just have to go check out Myra's idea! Got a HUGE basket of scraps just screaming to be put to use.
We have a Dickens Village that I haven't been able to set up for several years since I don't have room in this house. I miss playing with it.
I know a few people who put scraps into pillow cases for dog beds...also batting scraps are wonderful and lord knows I've got plenty of that!

Our local sewing guild has been doing this but making smaller pillows for pets -- great idea!

Very little is considered "scrap" around here. I use them for strips, applique, and odd blocks for quilt backs. My quilt backs are getting funkier and funkier as I am putting odd fabric pieces in odd places. I love my scraps. (Love my dogs, too, but they love my quilts. All under a flannel quilt as I type).

The scraps for pets is not my idea, but yes it is a good one! 8-)
I like the night versions of your village. I only have a small group of houses but I love to turn them on just at dusk and then enjoy the sight of my little village at night. :-)
