The first photo below is me with my good friend, Rhea, (who we visited when we were there). She is on the left and I'm the one wearing glasses. I've known her for about 25 years now and even though we no longer see each other very often (due to distance), we have a very relaxed, nice time whenever we are together. An added treat this time was the fact that her granddaughter (on summer break from college) was there, too, and we had a nice time seeing her, also. The second photo shows a large tin of buttons Rhea gave me. Her kids were telling her to throw them out....and she didn't really want to do that. SO....she is happy they are going to me...who will truly appreciate them. They belonged to her mother and.....as close as she can figure.....the oldest of the buttons might be from the 1920's - 1930's. I'll be adding these to the buttons I got at a yard sale (and showed here the other day). I'll now be on the hunt for nice jars in which to display them. Thank you, Rhea, for a really nice time the past few days AND for the buttons!!!

Seeing those old buttons takes me back. Mama had a button jar. She may still have it, but I haven't seen it for years.
I see one set of tiny buttons with "Grants" on them. I do wonder if that was Grants department store. The one here was like a huge Five and Dime. I can still visualize the candy counter and smell the popcorn and floor wax. (the floors were always freshly polished so the scent lingered.)
Back thru the years, I do wandering once again......

Sounds like you had a wonderful time Pat. I love those buttons as well. Lucky lady. I have my buttons in antique ball jars and then the jars are all in an antique canning rack. I love it.

Love old buttons, and like others that's probably due to memories. As kids we used to string buttons with needle and thread to pass the time while at my grandparents house. How wonderful that your friend gave them to you! :)

Doesn't your friend have some beautiful treasures! I wonder how many other people are convinced to throw away old "junk"? Makes my heart a little sad.... So I'm glad you are saving those beauties from being tossed.

Welcome back. Glad you had a good visit with your friend. And how wonderful to have a collection of buttons with some really old ones. My mother's old buttons came to me and then went to Kate, because, at that time I had no use for them. I may have a few left, but they are all mixed in with newer ones, so I don't know which is which.
Have you ever heard that saying that Quilter's Don't Do Buttons? I don't know who came up with that one but I've got jars full and go through them time to time to look for the perfect one for any given project. Not only are buttons a treasure but your friendship with Rhea.

Oh, how I would love to sit and sort those buttons, over and over again. Let's see, first by color, then by size, and then, oh, I could think of a few other excuses to just play with them.
Time spent with friends is just wonderful, isn't it. And a tin of buttons that will always make you think of her is really special!! Good to have you back!

When my twin daughter was much younger she went to speech therapy. The reward for working hard was to get to choose a button from the big button jar. The kids didn't have any use for them but they loved pawing through the many, many buttons and choosing one. I thought the therapist was quite clever to think this up.
