A twisted tale...or a tale of two twisters!!!
About a year ago, Jackie was kind enough to mail me her Lil Twister tool to try. Since I was going to vacation in her area during the winter, I was able to return it to her in person and we got to meet, which was nice. This first photo shows the table runner I made using her Lil Twister.
While the use of Jackie's Lil Twister tool went well, I wasn't too happy with the results as my color placement was "off" and the contrasts just weren't there....some of the pinwheels got "lost" in the shuffle. I tried to use all random 5" squares and I should have used ones that were better coordinated. About a week ago, I saw a demo of the tool at the LQS and decided to buy one of my own and make something with which I'd be more satisfied. I decided to use a charm pack (so the coordination would be there) and chose colors my daughter likes (black, brown, tan, and lighter neutrals). This second picture is the result and I'm much happier with how I did on this runner. I hope my daughter likes it (once it's quilted and has binding on it, of course).

I like both of them -- my friend is going to purchase one of the little ones -- she already has the large size. I saw one made from squares already sewn into a color coordinated pattern and it turned out great!

I STILL haven't tried my twister tool and I've had it for nearly a year (oh my gosh, maybe two?). Yep, put that on my every-growing to-do list ;)
I like them both - the first one more subtle and the second more crisp. Contrast makes the difference!
I like your second one better too! I did the same thing with the table runner I made only I think mine looks busier. I didn't really have any solids in it or any fabric that read like solids. There is really anywhere for the eyes to rest when looking at it. Fabric choice and placement really is the hardest part of this project.
Your fist twister is pretty, but I know what you mean about the colors. Your second one is just beautiful! :0)

I love my Lil Twister tool too...although I think it wastes a sizable amount of fabric...I found that using a solid square alternately really brought out the design...
Love the second one, but then the black/white/neutral is more my colors..
I love both. The green one is really cute. I can see where it is important to use coordinating fabrics.
I have two Twister tools and just love them. Did you know there is even a smaller one out now? I believe for 2.5 squares!!
