I am in the process of trying to declutter the house. I have accumulated lots of things and really can do without many of them. So....I set a goal of getting rid of at least 5 items per day for as long as I can continue to do that. Some days I have gotten rid of more than 5. My best day was today when I got rid of 30 items!!! Some of the items are going to folks I know who will enjoy them.....many more are going to an area thrift shop. It feels good to do this. So far, I'm not noticing a big difference in the house, overall, but that will come, in time. I also am not finding it difficult to identify items that need to GO.....but I'm sure it will become harder as days/weeks go by! For now, though, my plan is working well.
Along with this, I am taking more time for ME this year. This will be done in several ways.....little things to improve my health (remembering to take my daily vitamin and calcium, drinking lots of water each day, increasing my amount of exercise, etc.) I am also setting out to improve my singing skills in choir and hope to start piano lessons soon. That is something I've always wanted to do since I was a little girl (at which time I had to settle for accordion lessons...which I hated...but that was what fit my parents' budget...no way they could get a piano for me).
Here is a photo of something cute I forgot I had. I found it when decluttering and I'm going to put it out and use it AND make some more "quilts" for it. It is a miniature wooden quilt rack. I put a pen by it when I took the photo so you can see how small it is. I really like it and it will not be going out of the house as a "clutter" item! Some things you just need to keep.....

Oh I love your miniature quilt rack...definitely not a thing to get rid of...I will look forward to seeing those little quilts!!
Wish I had the energy that you're putting into decluttering. Right now I'm working on new items for my Etsy store, and then I hope to start to declutter my sewing room.
Good for you on the decluttering! I like the little quilt rack. I have one too...I just might make some tiny quilts too.
Wow, can I ever relate to decluttering! My family is helping my Mom with doing just that since my Dad passed before Christmas, and Mom wants to stay in her home for now. At age 94 she needs help, and I just spent a week in NC decluttering her house. I returned thinking that I don't want my kids to have to go through that for me someday. So I want to start on my own home NOW. So far, however, I haven't gotten rid of a thing, but I like your 5 items per day rule. I will try it! Your tiny quilt rack is precious, I would keep that too!!
Working on that too. Your 5 a day is a great idea. Makes it seem so much more manageable.
Your mini quilt rack is cute. I think I have somewhere too.
Organizing and editing seems to be a never ending effort. I love how you found something that you had forgotten about and love. Kudos to you for not doing it all at once and making it manageable!
Yay for you! I'm in a clean-out mode and have been able to barter my unused stuff for stuff I can use.
how well I remember the accordion days....no money for a piano, just like you. I'm glad you're not pitching the mini quilt holder--it's adorable. So happy you're focusing on you this year and maybe you'll inspire me to go beyond my comfort level. Bless you in your new endeavors, my longtime friend :-)
I am in a constant state of declutter, so I have utmost empathy for you! Cute little stand -- fun to quilt for it!!! :)
What a great way to declutter! I have started getting rid of some books, but there's lots of other stuff that need to go as well. Love your'e little quilt rack!
I love your idea. I have Purple Heart coming tomorrow for four large bags of stuff and will continue to get rid of stuff.
